SSAB Zero™ fossil carbon emission-free steel based on recycled raw material, produced using fossil-free energy. It’s the first commercial steel of its kind, with virtually zero fossil carbon emissions.

Recycled steel to speed up the carbon footprint reduction

One of our ambitious 2030 targets for the people and planet is to reduce the CO₂emissions by 50% from relevant suppliers. Our largest purchased good and service is steel, and in general the steel industry accounts for 7% of the global carbon dioxide emissions, making it one of the largest single industrial CO₂ emitters.

Our partnership with Swedish steelmaker SSAB will allow us to build our machines using both of SSAB's zero-emission steel types: SSAB Zero^TM based on recycled steel and SSAB Fossil-free^TM, based on iron-ore without fossil fuels. Both types of steel have 0.0 kg CO₂e emissions per kg steel, including the production, purchased energy, and raw material.

By utilizing steel with a lower carbon footprint and without compromising on quality, we keep pushing the boundaries that help speed up the transition for the mining and construction industries to reach more sustainable operations.

This bucket is made with SSAB Zero^TM, a recycled steel that lessens the carbon footprint even further. It means a reduction of 15 tons CO₂e per bucket. This is the equivalent of removing 7, 5 gasoline cars from the road for one year.
